Microprocessor

The microprocessor is an integrated circuit that contains all the functions of a CPU of a computer.

Transistor

The Transistor has effected the miniaturization process greatly within technology. The transistor is an amplifier or an electrically controlled switch. Before transistors, vacuum tubes were used in place of transistors. Vacuum tubes, however, were very large compared to the transistor and it required a warm-up period before it could be used.

Miniaturization is basically a trend in technology toward ever-smaller scales for electronic devices. The reason why laptops cost more than desktops is because of miniaturization.

Moore's Law

This is a law discovered by Gordon E. Moore in 1965 that basically says that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit for minimum component cost doubles every 24 months. This is related to miniaturization.
